How to Care for Your Skin While on Vacation

Summer is here and, for many, it’s time to hit the road. Of course, while you’re vacationing you will still want to make sure to take proper care of your skin. Before you pack your bags, take a look at the following advice from Dr. Stefani Kappel, a dermatologist who does everything from botox to lip injections in Newport Beach.

Apply sunscreen, even on the plane. That’s right, UV rays still penetrate those airplane windows, and you’re 10,000 feet in the air—even closer to the sun than you are relaxing at the beach.  Studies have shown that pilots and flight attendants have higher rates of skin cancer than those with other professions.

Remember to hydrate your skin. All of that sun you’ll be soaking up and the tasty drinks you may or may not be enjoying can dehydrate you, leaving your skin dry. Be sure to properly clean and hydrate your skin even while on vacation. And, drink lots of water.

Speaking of which, be sure to pack your favorite moisturizers and cleansers. These are the two best anti-aging creams you can use and being on vacation is no reason to deprive your skin of the  care it usually receives. Quite the opposite, your skin is under a lot of stress between the dry air of an airplane cabin, extra sunlight, and more. Now is when it needs care the most.

Dr. Kappel, a dermatologist in Newport Beach, also advises you to bring good face wipes with you. In most cases, they are easier than packing a lot of your favorite soap and you can take them in your carry-on on the plane. Furthermore, you can’t always rely on hotels providing high quality soap so it is a good idea to bring the wipes with you wherever you’re staying.

These are just a few pieces of advice for caring for your skin while on vacation. To get personalized tips, consult your dermatologist as you plan your next trip.
